PAVO Officials Training Program (OTP) Camps
Purpose: To offer on-court officiating opportunities, with constructive feedback from experienced officials, to the official who desires improvement of skills and career advancement.
The PAVO OTP has been offering training camps for several years, in various venues. Camps are held in conjunction with both NCAA Division I spring tournaments, and other spring and summer events . These camps offer on-court training opportunities, and may provide an opportunity to officiate a higher level of play than the camper has previously experienced. Annual plans usually also include at least one "Advanced Camp", which is intended for the experienced referee who is seeking the next level of skills and expertise. The Advanced Camp registration process is explained below.
For 2008, some camps will be jointly administrated by PAVO & USAV
- An Advanced Camp at the NIRSA Championships (National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association)
More information on these opportunities is provided below.
Click here for more information on camp scholarships that are available.
The camp experience offers the following:
- a chance to officiate with officials from other areas of the country
- evaluations without the intensity of a rating session
- feedback from seasoned evaluators
- an atmosphere conducive to learning and fun!
At most camps, the camper will be videotaped (with audio-feedback) during their on-court experiences. After completing the camp, campers have the option of having summarized evaluation information sent to conference coordinators and assignors across the country.
Take advantage of this opportunity as a camper or potential staff person by contacting the PAVO office at 888/791-2074 or email pavo@pavo.org. (On-line camp registration is not available at this time.)
